CONSULTATIONS

What to expect

First Consultation

Length time: 60-90 mins
Cost: £75

Here after a discussion on what you require from this process (over a complimentary cup of herbal tea) we get stuck into the details! An in-depth discussion involving medical history, lifestyle habits and current or historic drug history. After this I will carry out diagnostic checks such as blood pressure, nail, tongue and pulse analysis. General advice is discussed and what needs to be addressed.

After the consultation I analyse all the information and create a suitable blend of medicine tailored to your specific needs. Usually a months’ worth is supplied. A treatment and lifestyle advice sheet are emailed or printed for your reference. The remedy and treatment advice are mostly completed between 2-5 days.

Follow up consultations

Length time: 30 – 45 mins

A follow up consultation is advised a month later. Here any changes, improvements or issues are discussed. The remedy may need to be tweaked as everyone responds to herbs and dosage differently. The prescription may need to be made stronger, herbs changed and or more ordered.

Additional costs

The remedies are an additional charge. Depending on the amount and type of medicine prescribed they cost between £5 – £45 for a month’s supply.

FAQs

How do herbs work?

Every herb has a number of active chemical constituents that have particular actions on the body or specific organs of the body. These prompt the required action; such as stimulating the circulatory system, relaxing the nervous system or balancing hormones. Herbs can also have a tonifying effect where they can strengthen and restore the body organs or systems.

Are herbs safe for children and the elderly?

Herbal remedies are suitable for all ages. A qualified herbalist would know about reduced dosage amounts and suitable or unsuitable herbs based on the person or condition. These special requirements are necessary for pregnant/breastfeeding women, children, the elderly or those with a very weakened constitution.

Can I take herbal remedies with pharmaceutical drugs?

Usually yes but it all depends on the type of medication that is being taken. Certain herbs can interact with pharmaceuticals such as warfarin or statins. Reducing their strength. This is why at a consultation all medication is recorded and safety checked with all herbs put in a formula, ensuring safety.

Are there any side effects?

There are not usually any side effects from herbs. As I use whole plants rather than extracts of particular constituent’s side effects are very rare. (Not experienced any yet, in my practice). However, as we are all unique, if there are any side effects, they will be mild and easily amended by lowering dosage or changing a herb that may not be suitable. I like to make a curtesy call a week after taking your remedies to ensure all feels good and patients can contact me instantly if they feel any discomfort.

How long do they take to work?

This is a hard question to answer as it all depends on the individual persons conditions and duration. An acute condition such as a urine infection will be a lot quicker (a few weeks) than a chronic condition such as arthritis (commonly 4-6 months). An improvement however is usually noticed within a few weeks to months and if not, the remedy will be modified to find a more suitable combination. The more work a patient puts in with their diet and lifestyle leads to quicker more positive results.
